This was a less focused stage than most; I did a bunch of smaller things, as opposed to one big thing. Which meant a wide variety of techniques and methods, so I'm certainly not complaining.

Here's the mise-en-place. The stages in this final box are definitely generally larger than they have been in previous boxes.

I started with some crossbeams and other internal framing.
Four plates have been added running across the build at various points.

Then I added these two red supports, which are attached via technic pins so they can rotate.
Near the center of the section, two red 1x2 technic pieces have been pinned into place, slightly below the top of the build.

I added some more framing plates...
Plates have been added laterally along the sides of the build.

And then made use of those red supports.
A brown brick with the base of a mast has been added on top of the red supports.
In case you can't tell from the photo, the red pieces (that are supporting that mast base) are rotatable, so the mast can be tilted slightly. In the final build it will be held in place with deck plates, I think, but for now it just rotates freely such that the mast can go from pointing straight up to being tilted at about 25 degrees.

Next I started on the first of two sub-assemblies, each of which I wasn't sure precisely what it was until putting it on the main build.
A 2x16 platform with clips on one end and some plates on top.
The platform has now been built up slightly, but is still mostly flat.
A third clip has been added to the end, and the platform now has multiple blocks on top.
The platform has been placed at the stern, with the clips facing out at the rear of the ship.

I still wasn't exactly sure what that was, but it's clearly intended at least in part to serve as a foundation on which to build a deck. I didn't know what the clips on the end would be for, but for now I set the build aside and started work on the second sub-assembly.
A 1x6 strip with a ball-joint on one end.

Two more ball joints have been added, creating a shape that aligns with the clips from the previous sub-assembly.
Blocks have been added to make it chunkier and taller.

More blocks. The front now has a slight curviness to it, made more obvious from the sloped blocks placed along it on the front of the sub-assembly.
A piece has been added that says "TITANIC LIVERPOOL." It's been added so the text is currently upside down.
More black sloped pieces have been added to the top (which will eventually become the bottom) of the sub-assembly.

Before clipping the hull section into place, it was time for a trivia break.
A caption from the build instructions, in English, French, and Spanish: "The Titanic lacked a searchlight and had no Public Address system."

Then I did clip the new sub-assembly into place.
The piece has been clipped into place in the sockets from the previous sub-assembly, creating the curve at the tip of the stern with the words "TITANIC LIVERPOOL" printed on it.

I added framing around the base of the mast.
Windowpane pieces have been placed on either side of the block with the mast base.

Next I extended the hull walls on the sides, with more hinged pieces and some cleverly-designed sideways plates.
A hinged assembly covered in tiles.

The hinged piece attached to the main build.

A small sub-assembly with plates and black sloped blocks.
The small sub-assembly has been turned on its side and attached next to the hinged piece.

I placed mirror images of those assemblies on the other side.
A similar hinged piece has been added to the other side of the ship...

... and the smaller sub-assembly as well.
The smaller sub-assembly attached to the other side of the ship.

I extended the wrap-around hull walls.
The pieces from the previous step are now being used to hold some black sloped tiled to create the wide band wrapped around the stern.

And finished by adding deck plating to the central third of this section.
Deck plates have been added, between (and level with) the hinged assemblies from earlier.

That's it for stage 40. Thanks as always for reading!
