Another short, simple, almost meditative stage today. It was quite soothing, actually, and a good way to unwind after a busy week at work. I like that despite the build having a bunch of repeated elements throughout, the designers still found a way to add variation and keep me interested. In box 1, I built out the full model and then added the hull walls; here, I'm not even a quarter into the second box, and less than halfway through section 3, and I'm already adding hull walls to that section, even though I haven't built the upper decks yet. And these walls are constructed quite differently from the walls in box 1; they look similar on the outside, but as you'll see, the inner structure is nto at all the same.

Here's the mise-en-place.
Two plates of small parts, including yet more of the tiny identical porthole pieces; and a small set of larger pieces.

First I built this backing plate, which looked almost haphazard, but you'll see why it makes sense in a moment.
A 24x12 plate with a somewhat random-looking collection of bricks and small pieces on it. There are some patterns to the arrangements of the bricks, but it seems kind of arbitrary. The blocks are inconsistently colored, and the patterns that are present don`t align with each other.

As soon as I added these tiles I started to see what was happening.
The bricks on the top half of the plate have been covered with black tiles and black 2x2 round-edged plates. Now that the color scheme is consistent, the overall pattern is much more obvious, and it`s clear that there is space for three off-set rows of portholes on the top half of the build.
Six sets of portholes attached to 1x2 plates.
A detail showing that the six sets of portholes have been added to the top row.
Twelve sets of portholes attached to sloped bricks. Eleven of them are 1x2, and the twelfth is 1x1.
The second set of portholes has been added to the rest of the top half.

And then the bottom half.
A line of red plates, and a few more internal blocks, have been added to extend the bottom row of the build.
The bottom half of the build has been covered in 2x6 red tiles, and curved red blocks for the very bottom row. There is a 2x3 space on the left side that has not been covered, and a 2x3 red tile on the right side to even out the spacing and make the three rows of red tiles staggered.
I believe that gap on the left is where another red tile will be placed after sections 3 and 4 are joined together.

I added the hull to the main build, and put the orange line in place.
The hull has been added to the side of the main build.
A row of orange tiles has been added on top of the hull wall, to create the same orange line that was added to the stern in box one.

And that's it for stage 14! Thanks as always for reading.
