Stages 38 and 39 were mirror images of each other, so I only took detailed photos of 38. It's not too difficult to figure out what they are, but I'll leave it a mystery for now. Here's the mise-en-place for both stages.

A large set of blocks. Notable are many slightly differently shaped black curved tiles and blocks.
Almost the same set of blocks. Some of the pieces are mirror images of the ones from the previous image.

For each stage, I started by building a platform.
A 24-stud-long platform, with multiple plates of different widths.

I added some of the black sloped pieces.
Eleven 2x3 black sloped pieces have been added.
A second layer of black slopes has been added above the first.

Then I flipped the whole thing over and added some reinforcement and scaffolding to the bottom.
A zig-zag of one-stud-wide plates across the underside of the piece.
Some of the zig-zag has been reinforced with a second layer.

I covered the piece in red tiles.
The piece has been flipped back over, and the section below the black slopes is mostly covered in red tiles.

And added one more curved block to the black section.
The piece is now a flat plate covered in red tiles, below a chunky black angled section that sticks up into the air.

Then I set that whole sub-assembly aside, and started on another component.
A slightly smaller sub-assembly of black sloped blocks.
The black sloped block assembly now has structural pieces added above the sloped blocks.

It kept growing.
The structural pieces have been covered with more black sloped blocks, extending the sub-assembly up and out.

And growing.
More black sloped block extending it further up and out.

Then I joined the two sub-assemblies together.
The two sub-assemblies side by side. Visible are two technic pins on one of them, aligned with two holes on the other.

The two sub-assemblies joined together. It is now undeniably the hull of the stern.

I reinforced the place where they joined with some more sloped black pieces.
The piece has been reinforced as described, filling out the top line of the hull

I added a panel along the bottom.
A red-tiled panel has been added along the bottom, creating a one-stud-wide gap between the main piece and the new panel.

I added the pieces that would clip it into place on the main build, and clipped it into place.
The underside, with reinforcements and clip bars added.
The whole thing, clipped into place on the main build. The one-stud-wide gap fits perfectly around the propeller shaft.

That was 38. Then I did the same thing, mirrored, on the other side of the ship, for stage 39.
The other side of the ship, also with hull plating clipped into place.

I love the way the hull fits around the propeller shafts that were already in place, and I really enjoyed building these bulky, awkward-looking , top-heavy sub-assemblies; pieces that looked bizarre laid down but then fit perfectly, and felt perfectly secure, once they were clipped into place. Tthese hull panels are much heavier and bulkier than the hull on the rest of the build (I'm not even sure it's valid to call them "panels"), so once I'd placed stage 38 onto the build, the whole thing was... not quite listing; it was sitting flat on the table. But it was definitely and noticeably resting more on the walled side than the un-walled side while I was building stage 39.

That's it for stages 38 and 39. Thanks as always for reading!
